Sunday morning, August 10, I had the privilege of preaching at Sheridan Six Points Wesleyan Church. Pastor Scott McDermid is away on a much-deserved sabbatical. I was glad to be one of several preachers who stepped up to supply the pulpit in his absence. Pastor Scott assigned the passages for our sermons. It was my joy to preach from 2nd Peter, chapter 1. God has blessed the ministry at Six Points with more than a dozen baptisms last year. On the way to Sheridan’s 10 AM service, I was able to drop in on Pastor Andy Riemersma and the team at ONE Church in Westfield. It was encouraging to see the attendance and spirit of worship. I was also able to see Michael Wood in action on the soundboard! Last week’s schedule included a first for our Crossroads District. The River Church launched a new Thursday evening service to accommodate continued growth. I was able to drop in on the service along with more than 200 others. Pastor Matthew Trexler and his team are working on the renovation plans to relocate the congregation to the south (former Lakeview) campus as quickly as possible. Pray for God’s wisdom and provision. Meetings and in-person coaching conversations last week included Rev. Mike Colaw (Indianapolis Trinity), Rev. Randy Yaryan (Winchester), Rev. Carla Working (DBMD), and Dr. David Smith (Circuit Riders). Michael Wood and I met in Indianapolis for planning sessions on Monday and again on Wednesday. The Crossroads District Christmas gathering will be at IWU again this year on the first weekend of December (December 5/6). Nothing is more exciting than to hear about how God is at work in our churches and changing lives for eternity! Rev. Barry Dixon passed along the good word that Indianapolis Calvary Family Church baptized five new believers on Sunday, August 10. Last conference year they celebrated four baptisms. They’ve already surpassed that mark in the first four months of the new conference year. Praise the Lord! Pastor Lyle Breeding and the team at Bluffton Sonlight Wesleyan Church had another day of celebration with six new believers publicly professing their faith in Jesus Christ. Sonlight had a wonderful year of ministry last conference year with 35 professions of faith and 29 baptisms. This conference year is off to a great start! Pastor Sam Maddox led the team at Albion Wesleyan Church in another Saturday outreach to bless their neighborhood. They set up tents in their parking lot with free food, giveaways, music, and a Gospel presentation. Four new believers were baptized! Praise God! Pastor Ed Friberg and the team at Shiloh Wesleyan Church (Plymouth) are praising God for lives being #MadeNew! Yesterday, after the morning worship service, the congregation gathered for a church family picnic and baptism. Pastor Ed shared that they already have at least one more baptism signed up for September! Fairmount Camp extends a warm welcome to the Crossroads District family to join them for Legacy Camp. Services will be held at 6:30 each evening beginning this Wednesday, August 13. Dr. Joe Harmon, former pastor of Eastview Wesleyan Church, will be the camp evangelist. I’ll look forward to seeing you there! Mark your calendars and bring your teams! September 27 will be the next ReEquip Experience for pastors and lay leaders. We’ll be gathering in Marion for this fast-paced morning of learning (from 9:00-12:00). Want to know more about best practices for church finances, or how to effectively and ethically use AI, or how your team can better serve teenagers and children? All this and more! Watch for the registration form coming next week. We’re also pleased to announce that IWU is hosting the Wesleyan Holiness Connection for a Pastors & Church Leaders Day on Tuesday, September 23. Click here for more information and registration. The Wesleyan Church is hosting regional youth events this fall with the closest one coming to Grand Rapids on Friday and Saturday, October 24-25. Our own Andy Riemersma is one of the featured artists. For more information, here’s the link: https://wesleyan.org/empoweredtour2025 Thank you for all you do to advance God’s Kingdom!
